Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God. – Psalm 20:7

What if I was to ask you a simple question, Such as what do you put your trust in when you are going through hard times? Do you put your trust in your bank account, your career, your skills, your achievements? If you answer yes to any of these, are you assured that they will always be there to deliver you?

In the Old Testament, the Lord was continually reminding his people that it would be him and him alone that would be their deliverer and not carved images made with man’s hands that had ears that couldn’t hear, eyes but couldn’t see, and a mouth that couldn’t speak.

I will lay waste the mountains and hills,
And dry up all their vegetation;
I will make the rivers coastlands,
And I will dry up the pools.
I will bring the blind by a way they did not know;
I will lead them in paths they have not known.
I will make darkness light before them,
And crooked places straight.
These things I will do for them,
And not forsake them.
They shall be turned back,
They shall be greatly ashamed,
Who trust in carved images,
Who say to the molded images,
‘You are our gods.’ – Isaiah 42:15-17

In modern times the majority of us, at least in the United States don’t carve out images made of wood with the hopes it will somehow bring us good fortune and deliver us in troubling times but we do place our trust in things that are temporal, such as wealth, talent, and even the systems of men and not the Kingdom of God. I challenge you today to remember the Lord God and remember the name that has been given above all names! the name of Jesus.

Remember how much he has brought you out of, Where would you be right now if it had not been for his supernatural deliverance? I know I may not even be here today if it had not been for the Lord and his faithfulness to deliver me from the darkest hours in my life. Take about 5 minutes and begin to think about all the times you know the Lord stepped in your deepest valley and lifted you from the miry clay and set your feet upon the rock and established your goings! The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe! – Proverbs 18:10
