He delivered me because he delights in me

He sent from above, He took me;
He drew me out of many waters.
He delivered me from my strong enemy,
From those who hated me,
For they were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
But the Lord was my support.
He also brought me out into a broad place;
He delivered me because He delighted in me. – Psalm 18:16-19

In the passage above, David recounts how the Lord delivered him from an impossible situation that would require supernatural intervention on his behalf. The passage reveals the mercy and love of God that is able to deliver us from the deepest and darkest situations we may face in life, whether it’s deep waters of debt, physical sickness, marital problems, and the list goes on.

We must remember that the Lord’s hand is not short that it can reach us regardless of what situation we are facing! This passage reminds me that no matter what I may be facing in this season of my life and how impossible it may seem, The Lord is still my support, He is still on his throne and he still has a plan for me!

The final word of encouragement in this passage is the fact the David is telling us that the Lord shall deliver us nit because of our own merit or we deserve to be delivered but the simple fact that he will deliver us because “He delights in us”.
